Decision Making Support (30 minutes – $100)

Pet owners are far too often left with the advice of “call us when you’re ready” or “you’ll know when you know”. End of life decision making is rarely that simple and quality of life is so much more than eating. Many owners can navigate this well enough but sometimes they just need a conversation. These calls provide a safe space to ask questions, share concerns, and explore options with a compassionate and experienced professional before scheduling that final appointment.

Together, you and Dr. Freed will review your pet’s medical condition, treatments, and symptoms. She will then provide resources and guidance on how to evaluate pain and quality of life of your pet. Because these calls are virtual, she is unable to prescribe medications or treatments but together you will determine the next best step for your pet. Dr. Freed can continue to provide support for you and your family through an in-home comfort care consultation with personalized treatment plan or if the decision is made to assist in a peaceful passing, she will be there to walk with you on that journey.

Planning Call (1 hour – $175)

Often as we near our pet’s final days we can become consumed with their care and monitoring their symptoms. Anticipatory grief may build, having us already missing the pet that is still by our side. Dr. Freed wants to encourage her families to give consideration to the day itself. For millennia humans have faced the loss of loved ones with traditions, rituals, and ceremonies. The passing of a pet is an opportunity to create your own rituals surrounding death and loss, easing the journey with grief ahead.

Whether it is your first time facing euthanasia, you’re navigating how to involve young children or you’re wanting to honor your pet with a celebration of life, taking time to plan with an experienced professional can help provide comfort as you are meeting one of life’s hardest moments. These calls offer time for Dr. Freed to get to know your pet and family and hold space for you to share their life story. Dr. Freed will assist you in considering a variety of elements to bring into your remaining time together to transform their passing from a moment to fear to a memory to cherish.
