Slide Dr. Freed started Golden Years Vet to fill the gap in care that senior pets experience as they age. All too often families are given terminal diagnoses and given the option between complicated treatments or human euthanasia. If the advanced treatment is declined, families are sent home with the instructions to “call us when you’re ready”. Questions of how to know when it’s time are met with platitudes like “you’ll know when you know” or “when they stop eating”. The journey to the end of life is far more complicated and rarely that clear. With Golden Years Veterinary Services Dr. Freed provides comfort care for pets addressing symptoms of disease as they arise, while companioning families on the journey from diagnosis to death. She feels no family should ever feel alone in the care of their pet, especially at the end. Patient (817) 453-7796

Slide In addition to caring for the pets on their journey Dr. Freed recognizes the importance of caring for their humans. The loss of a pet is often described as more difficult to process than the loss of human loved ones. Additionally, every death of a loved one that we experience in life brings up the grief and loss tied to everyone before. It is because of this lifelong relationship with grief and loss that Dr. Freed prioritizes supporting the pet owners as much as their pets. Death and loss is one of few guarantees in life and if we are able to face it with love and support we are able to bravely weather life’s most difficult moments. Family (817) 453-7796

Slide Dr. Freed wants to change pet loss for the better. She believes centering the pet’s spirit and soul allows us to see their death as more than an euthanasia but a transition. Every pet owner knows their pet’s spirit, a unique personality, a special blend of traits. This beloved being has spent years by our side and the bond between us is rich and interwoven. Their euthanasia is far more than a medical procedure but a transition, from the world of the living to the world of spirit. Whatever your relationship to the spirit world, Dr. Freed wants to encourage you to tap into it in this journey, bringing ritual and ceremony to the final days. It is through ritual, prayer, and ceremony that humans have navigated the pain of loss for millenia, while our society has strayed from these traditions the time is ripe to recreate our own.
